4 Goals for 2024

It’s that time of year again, our second chance to start the new year (the Liturgical Calendar began with Advent in 2023).

These are the big four resolutions that I’m going to tackle (again) and I’ve included some resource, article and affiliate links that I’ve found helpful.

5 Tips to Pray MORE, From the Heart, When You’re TOO Busy

St. Francis de Sales once said, “Every one of us needs half an hour of prayer a day, except when we are busy – then we need an hour.”

I always feel at least a little bit better after I pray, especially when I prayer-journal and I’m praying from the heart. So why don’t I pray always, pray unceasingly, or at least pray for a consistent time each and every day? I have good intentions, but the day runs away from me. There are always more things to do, unexpected challenges, conversations, and needs. It’s hard to prioritize prayer and it’s difficult to remember to reach out in prayer, even when I really need to.

Imagine You Walked with Jesus: A Guide to Ignatian Contemplative Prayer {Book Review}

Imagine You Walked with Jesus: A Guide to Ignatian Contemplative Prayer
by Jerry Windley-Daoust
Our Sunday Visitor

This book is a treasure!

Windley-Daoust provides all the context of first-century Palestine, including what the buildings looked and felt like, what clothes the people wore, and what food they enjoyed, as well as insights into the Jewish culture of the time. He provides prayer to help us receive the specific Scripture and then ‘sets the scene’  with helpful detail about the context, given the culture and any special references alluded to within the Scripture. The author then extends a few questions to prompt reflection and consider how the story applies to our lives. He encourages us to reflect and prayer-journal or share with a prayer group.

Leaving a Legacy of Faith

“What legacy of faith

do you hope to leave in this world?”

My go-to devotion is the Cloak of St Joseph and I prefer good deed bead bracelets or other one-decade rosary tools to pray my rosary.

I’ve been forever changed by a few experiences with relics from two of my favorite saints, St. John Paul II and St. Padre Pio. However, I think I’d like to be remembered for two particular practices that have enhanced my personal prayer but may not be recognized as official Catholic traditions or devotions (yet).
