There is No Saint Named Kelly {Book Review}

I just discovered this book at The Pauline Bookstore, and I had to pick it up!

I love the style of illustration, and I know I’ve had the same conversation with my own daughter Kelly…

The truth is that EVERYONE up in Heaven is considered a SAINT…we only know for sure the ones by name who have been officially recognized as a Saint, but there are already SO many Saint Kellys up there!

This self-guided retreat is an invitation to rediscover prayer in the midst of ordinary life. Instead of waiting for the “perfect” quiet moment, or quieter season in your life, you’ll learn how to turn your real, everyday experiences into personal prompts to pray from the heart. Daily chores, routines, distractions, temptations, frustrations, and even your habits and weaknesses become gentle reminders to reach for the Lord. Nothing is wasted — every thought, feeling, and task can become a small, personal return to His presence…and a custom conversation-starter with Him. Around the Catholic Table: 100+ Simple Recipes for Family and Friends {Book Review}

When I first skimmed through Around the Catholic Table by Emily Stimpson Chapman, I was a tiny bit disappointed because I thought the recipes would be focused on the Catholic Liturgical Calendar or the Catholic Saints. I then read through the Introduction and discovered Emily’s passion for cooking and hospitality, reflecting her parents’ love of hosting, and how her passion flourished with Thursday Night Dinners at Franciscan University, and continues today, hosting family and friends with her own family.

Library of How Saints Pray

I’ve been creating my own Masterclass-for-me, researching what the Saints teach us about prayer. I’ve discovered some AWESOME books…some are probably familiar if you’ve ever jumped into Catholic spiritual reading, but some are a little obscure, written by holy men and women, not yet declared saints…a couple of them are still walking around in our time!

Imagine You Walked with Jesus: A Guide to Ignatian Contemplative Prayer {Book Review}

Imagine You Walked with Jesus: A Guide to Ignatian Contemplative Prayer
by Jerry Windley-Daoust
Our Sunday Visitor

This book is a treasure!

Windley-Daoust provides all the context of first-century Palestine, including what the buildings looked and felt like, what clothes the people wore, and what food they enjoyed, as well as insights into the Jewish culture of the time. He provides prayer to help us receive the specific Scripture and then ‘sets the scene’  with helpful detail about the context, given the culture and any special references alluded to within the Scripture. The author then extends a few questions to prompt reflection and consider how the story applies to our lives. He encourages us to reflect and prayer-journal or share with a prayer group.
