Feast Day Fun: St Rita

May 22  is the Feast Day of St. Rita. She is the patron saint of impossible causes and hopeless or desperate cases because of the difficulties she experienced in her life.

Although St Rita wished to be a nun, her marriage was arranged to a difficult and violent man. After 20 years, her husband repented before he died.  Her two sons died shortly after that and St Rita focused on prayer, fasting, penance and good works. She entered the convent …and experienced the wounds of the crown of thorns.

Equipping Catholics at Catholic Conferences

We just returned from the New Evangelization Summit in Ottawa with Dr. Scott Hahn, Fr. Michael Gaitley, Dr. Ralph Martin, Fr. James Mallon, Patrick Coffin and many others. This wonderful event was organized by the Mission of the Redeemer, founded by Michael Dopp. While the event took place in Ottawa, Ontario, the talks were broadcasted to 20 Satellite sites across North America!

St. Patrick  was taken to Ireland as a slave and his faith grew.  He escaped, went home to Britain, became a priest and then bishop.  He returned to Ireland, preaching and converting many people, using the shamrock to explain the Trinity. A few years ago, we transformed a couple TY dolls to be Saints. Here is St. Patrick!

Feast Day Fun: Epiphany and Felt Kings Tutorial

For a number of reasons including a significant blog breakdown and a one-day window to get our Christmas tree to the curb, the Feast of the Epiphany  was a little quiet at our house this year!

Many families celebrate this last day of the Christmas season with a party, celebrating the Kings arrival at Jesus’ Crib. This celebration no doubt includes King Cake…and finding a coin or ring (or Baby Jesus) inside it! Some families even let the coin- or ring-finder be King (or Queen!) for the Day!
