Summertime Reading!

I don’t have a kindle, but I do purchase kindle versions of books because I enjoy reading them on my ipad. I like being able to crack open my ipad wherever I am and start reading from my library of book…waiting for an appointment or to pick up the kids somewhere. These are Amazon affiliate links…and I could earn literally dozens of cents if you click on them and buy one or two…thanks for your support!

First Reconciliation Prep or Refresher: Either Way, A Great Little Book about Confession!

With four kids who have now made their First Reconciliation, I have seen a wide range of First Reconciliation resources offered through our Parish, our school and many Catholic conferences.

2 Pope Books…as we await the Big Day!

I was so happy to receive these two little books for review from Franciscan Media. True to their titles, they are great, short biographies of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII.

With under 50 pages, each 6″x5″ book offers a nice review of each Pope’s life, showing how the events of their lives shaped their values and priorities and how their leadership and teachings as Pope have shaped our Catholic Church and Faith.

7 (+1!) Little Douglings

When we submitted A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families to a couple publishers, we were a little disappointed that the only publisher interested in working with us wanted to remove any talk about sin or Lent. Needless to say, that meeting launched us into a wonderful self-publishing adventure of Catholic conferences, Catholic Bookstore tours and old-fashioned cold-calling.  Over the years we have added many products including our line of over 30 Cathletics Craft Kits and we have been excited to offer free Catholic crafts and traditions here at Equipping Catholic Families.

Review: Good Pope, Bad Pope

Good pope, Bad Pope their lives, Our Lessons by Mike Aquilina

This is a neat little book showing the wisdom of the Church and the ultimate guidance of Christ, showing how He ‘kept his promise to his bride, the Church- not only in her health but also in her  sickness.  The great popes advanced our understanding of Christian doctrine. But even  more remarkable, the worst popes could do nothing to damage the teaching of the Church. That’s why, even inits darkest moments, the story of the papacy is the story of triumph.”

Review: The Holy Land

The Holy Land An Armchair Pilgrimage by Fr Mitch Pacwa

This is a beautiful book, filled with pictures from the Holy Land, exquisite artwork and maps, along with Fr Pacwa’s commentary on each site.  Relevant Scripture and prayers “focusing on a personal faith response to the spiritual events commemorated at each site turn the book into a private pilgrimage, enjoyed from the comfort of your home.”
