Sacred Silence: Review

Sacred Silence: Daily Meditations for Lent

by Phyllis Zagano

This is a neat little book of reflections for each day of Lent. I began reading this book on Ash Wednesday. The first reflection describes the need for silence in prayer, because how else will we be questioned with questions we may not be able to answer, if we never stop talking!?

40 Days, 40 Ways: A New Look at Lent

by Marcellino D’Ambrosio

This really is a great book and has helped us take a new look at Lent this year.

“Fasting breaks undue attachments…humble service breaks the stranglehold of pride. The reverent worship of authentic Faith releases us from superstition, magic, and all arrogant pride. And the Word of God…slashes through the lies of the enemy.”

Egg Carton Saints Passion Play

Last year, I made a couple figures out of Egg Cartons…including a couple knights as our company mascot Arma Dei  (Armor of God)

I made Mother Mary…and a Pope Francis as well!

It occurred to me that the little knights could stand in as Roman soldiers…and the beginning plans of a new Egg Carton Character Passion Play begins to take hold…

Our new Jesus Tree for Lent!

Although I have on occasion put the Jesse Tree Treasures’ Holy Week Ornaments on our own Handprint Tree Felt Banner, our family hasn’t done The Jesus Tree…until THIS LENT!

We prepare for the events of Holy Week and the Triduum, Ascension and Pentecost, proudly decorating this tree throughout the seasons of Lent and Easter!

Crown of Thorns Bread for Good Friday

You can see the Crown of Thorns we have made in a previous Lent. It’s also a Lenten activity in my book A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families.

It was more of a program for Lent; a way to count sacrifice and count down to Easter. I would include a picture here, except that one subscriber said that it looked like blood sausage with onion rings wrapped around it and I don’t want to cause anyone indigestion.

Seder Supper 2014

While our Seder Supper Free Printable has been very popular, it has sparked some controversy about whether or not Catholics should celebrate the Seder Supper.

I found this article  (Salt & Light) helpful…along with this article that it borrows from, written by Joe Paprocki.
