DIY Magic Box Tutorial

It’s a bit of a tradition in our family to have a Magic Party for each child’s 5th birthday…driven by the fact that my Dad is a hobby Magician!

He has an awesome Magician’s robe, does beautiful magic shows and grows a pretty authentic wizard beard, worthy of the name Sigurd the Wizard.

Egg Carton Saints Passion Play

Last year, I made a couple figures out of Egg Cartons…including a couple knights as our company mascot Arma Dei  (Armor of God)

I made Mother Mary…and a Pope Francis as well!

It occurred to me that the little knights could stand in as Roman soldiers…and the beginning plans of a new Egg Carton Character Passion Play begins to take hold…

Poker Chips (Converted to Catholic!)

Years ago, I made a Catholic craft out of some poker chips, a plastic picture frame and double-sided suction cups. We called it Plunk! with the Saints and posted a tutorial to make a Plunk! board.

Since then, our in-house artist (daughter) Kelly started drawing the Saints…and then the Mysteries of the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross. We’ve released a number of Cathletics Craft Kits with all kinds of templates to customize board game pieces, cake topper decorations…and we’ve finally got them ready for poker chips! Now, we keep coming up with new ways to use them! A little mod podge goes a long way! The Kelly Saints Stamps Craft Kit already includes a number of different templates of the Kelly Saints illustrations and bios, formatted to fit various game pieces, activities and crafts! The 1.5″ templates are a perfect fit for poker chips…but here are 30 ways to use the kit! read more...for Equipping Catholic Families!

Feast Day Fun: Epiphany and Felt Kings Tutorial

For a number of reasons including a significant blog breakdown and a one-day window to get our Christmas tree to the curb, the Feast of the Epiphany  was a little quiet at our house this year!

Many families celebrate this last day of the Christmas season with a party, celebrating the Kings arrival at Jesus’ Crib. This celebration no doubt includes King Cake…and finding a coin or ring (or Baby Jesus) inside it! Some families even let the coin- or ring-finder be King (or Queen!) for the Day!

Feast Day Fun: Bambinelli Sunday

We were inspired by the book Bambinelli Sunday. See Bridget’s review below!

We decided to take advantage of the SNOW DAY … and make our own Bambinelli.

I was intrigued by 2 different homemade recipes for dough I found online: one for salt/flour dough and one for corn starch/baking soda dough. The corn starch dough made a cool kind of dough and it’s nice and smooth and bright white, but we must have done something wrong, because it will not keep its’ shape.  The trusty salt dough was easier to work with and even though it can get a little crumbly, we like how our Bambinelli turned out.

Feast Day Fun: Immaculate Conception

December 8th is the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception.  This Feast Day does not celebrate Jesus’ Conception, but rather Mary’s conception within the womb of her mother, St Anne.  This special day appropriately occurs 9 months before the Birth of Mary within the Liturgical Calendar.
