Feast Day Fun: St Brother Andre

January 6th is the Feast Day of St Brother André.

Chronic stomach pain had made it difficult for St André to hold a job. At 25, he could not read or write.  He was deeply devoted to God and to St Joseph and insisted on building a shrine.  He quietly greeted visitors as a lay brother of the Congregation of the Holy Cross and people began to seek prayer from him. St André gave the credit for all of the resulting physical healings to the intercession of St Joseph.  In 1924, construction began for St Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, QC, alongside the chapel built on St André’s insistence.

Feast Day Fun: Epiphany and Felt Kings Tutorial

For a number of reasons including a significant blog breakdown and a one-day window to get our Christmas tree to the curb, the Feast of the Epiphany  was a little quiet at our house this year!

Many families celebrate this last day of the Christmas season with a party, celebrating the Kings arrival at Jesus’ Crib. This celebration no doubt includes King Cake…and finding a coin or ring (or Baby Jesus) inside it! Some families even let the coin- or ring-finder be King (or Queen!) for the Day!

NEW Catholic Blog Planner for 2015!

Last year in my attempt to get more organized, I compiled my own Catholic Blog Planner complete with

  • a 12 month calendar including key Catholic Feast Days and Seasons, space to record top referrers, top posts, giveaways, reviews, guest posts and events happening that month
  •  a table of PASSWORDS,
  • a table of blog stats on an increasing number of social media venues
  • a log template of guest posts, contributor articles and giveaways I participated in

Finally, I had one binder to include written records of key passwords, contact information, dates and all those pesky details I expect to remember at the time only to forget them well before I need the info again.

My Little Felt Friends Nativity

I almost forgot to put out My Little Felt Friends Nativity!  I love these durable little felt dolls and I specifically asked for the classic St Joseph (with the lilies) and Mother Mary holding the Infant Jesus so that I can bring them out for various Feast Days throughout the year…and especially these next 12 Days of Christmas!

Merry Christmas from the McConkeys

So, I didn’t write a Christmas letter but made a 2014 Collage instead! Just in case you haven’t seen it in the mail yet, I thought I’d share it here! 2014 was a big year in our family…with many big decade anniversaries and a crazy jump in travel in the fall! We also had a couple big firsts with Bridget’s First Communion, Emily’s First Year in University and Adam’s First Day of School in Junior Kindergarten!

Hand-Me-Down Treasures

This is the time of year, I inevitably start to panic a little.  Our previous plans to avoid an extravagant Christmas are called into question as we marvel at the buying frenzy…and worry that we have enough for everyone…
