St Kateri was orphaned when her Mohawk and Algonquin parents died of smallpox. Misunderstood by her people, she fled to Canada where she could live her Christian Faith through prayer, penance and good works. As she died, the smallpox scars vanished from her face.

Inspired by the St Kateri paper bag vests at Catholic Inspired and the crumpled version at Catholic Icing, I thought I’d try my own version for Bridget’s American Doll.

Here’s our St Benedict Wooden Painted Saint. Check out our Wooden Painted Saint Tutorial to start your own set! We’ve got lots of ways to use them as well… in board games, classic playsets, Lego, Lincoln Logs, Saints Day decorations, chore counting and piano practicing. St Benedict led the monks to memorize the psalms. Choose a few key lines of different psalms and work to memorize them by reading and reciting them each day. Continue to practice previously memorized passages to build a collection of memorized prayers from the psalms. (Psalm 18:29, Psalm 43:3, Psalm 68:20…find your own!)
At the age of 12, a young man tried to make Maria sin. When she absolutely refused, he stabbed her and she died a day later, but not before she forgave her murderer. Her murderer was arrested and 27 years later repented and reformed after seeing Maria in a dream. St Maria Goretti is the patron saint of girls and purity.

St Thomas is the Apostle who would not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead until he felt the Wounds with his own hands. He was nicknamed “Doubting Thomas”. Jesus said to St Thomas “you believe because you see Me. Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.” John 20:29 Pray for the Gift of Faith, to believe without having to always see proof or hear justification.
Ordinary Time is intended to remind us that Jesus is with us throughout all of our daily trials and triumphs. We should be striving to reflect Jesus’ Teaching with our actions every day.
I like to think of Ordinary Time as a time to focus on Faith and family…brushing up on Catechism, building our repertoire of prayers, delving into Scripture and forming habits that can carry us through all the Seasons! We’ve got some Cathletics Craft Kits for that!
Peter and Paul are two very important characters from the Early Church.
Peter was the most frequently mentioned member of the original 12 Apostles, who traveled with Jesus throughout His Public Ministry and could testify to the Resurrection. Jesus foretold that this apostle would be the rock upon which the Church would be built. Despite Peter’s betrayal of Jesus after His Arrest, St Peter led the Apostles, became the first pope and was martyred for his faith.
