Feast Day Crafts and Activities

Excerpts from A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families , various posts at Equipping Catholic Families and our Saint Scripts Craft Kits (Series ONE and TWO). Blessed Mother Teresa is known for her virtue of compassion and for being the “icon of the Good Samaritan”, caring for the sick and the poor in India. She models for us the Scriptural Works of Mercy…meeting both the Corporal and Spiritual needs of each person she encountered. I received a copy of You Did It to Me: A Practical Guide to Mercy in Action from Fr Michael Gaitley and it seems to offer a practical guide for all of us to tackle the Five Scriptural Works of Mercy with the same fervor as Blessed Mother Teresa. He refers to Matthew 25:31-46 and recalls the practical insights of St Pope John Paul II, St Faustina and Pope Francis and offers Blessed Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity as a key example of living a life of mercy (p20-21). The Coolest Catechist’s Classroom

Those of you we have been blessed to meet at Catholic conferences will recognize our Arma Dei castle-wall motif for our display.

It’s true!…we painted over 125 square feet of canvas to look like a castle wall and it’s guarded by our 7′ Arma Dei knight!

Catholic University CarePack

Today we are moving Emily into University, 4.5 hours away! (Yes, in Canada…we use the word University…the way Americans use the word College)

While there is no shortage of things to do, plan or pack, I’ve been distracting myself this week by compiling her first University Care Package. This is the first time we’ve sent a kid off to live away from home, so I’m learning as I go and I reserve the right to make additions to this initial Catholic Care Package (like Tiny Saints!)…and will likely send many more care packages in the months and years to come!

St Augustine was the rebellious son of St Monica, experimenting in various immoral behavior and questionable philosophies. With his mother quietly praying for him in the background and his career drawing him to Milan, St Augustine was led to conversion through the sermons of St Ambrose.

Feast Day Fun: St Monica!

St Monica is remembered as having a stressful life, between her ill-tempered husband and rebellious son! Through persistent prayer, sacrifice, patience and gentleness, St Monica’s husband converted before he died. Her rebellious son Augustine was also converted and became a bishop and saint and is recognized as a Doctor of the Church. With patience, gentleness and persistence, St Monica reminds us to pray for others, even when they are difficult to get along with …and resistant to changing their ways! She offers us hope in our prayer for those who stray from Jesus.

YOUCAT Review

I have been wanting to check out the Youth Catechism for a while and Ignatius Press graciously sent me a YOUCAT for review! You can get your copy of the YOUCAT at Ignatius Press.

I really like this paperback book and I think it will be an integral part of the University Care Pack I put together for my daughter as she leaves this week for University, 4.5 hours away! (We’re Canadian…and we use the word University the way Americans use College. We do have Colleges too…but there are generally some distinctions between the two.)

We were happy to have the opportunity to view this new movie coming out: The Identical. Emily and I saw it and enjoyed the music, the wholesome family message and just the right amount of early Rock ‘n Roll rebellion.
