Feast Day Fun: the Archangels

Archangels 6

Feast Day Crafts and Activities

Excerpts from A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families , various posts at Equipping Catholic Families and our Saint Scripts Craft Kits (Series ONE and TWO).

The three Archangels are St Michael, St Gabriel and St Raphael.

St Michael, whose name means “Who is like God?” brings justice and strength as he guards God’s People in the Book of Daniel.  He is credited with winning the battle against Satan.

St Gabriel, whose name means “Strength of God” seems to be the key messenger, explaining visions (to Daniel) and announcing future events to Zechariah (regarding the birth of John the Baptist) and to Mary and Joseph regarding the Birth of Jesus.

St Raphael, whose name means “God’s Healing” is credited with the healing of Tobit and the success of Tobit’s journey. We are encouraged to pray to the Archangels for their guidance and assistance.

Pray for St Michael’s intercession…in times of temptation and spiritual battle.

Pray for St Gabriel‘s intercession…when discerning God’s Will.

Pray for St Raphael‘s intercession…in times of sickness.

St Michael is much more powerful than he looks …as our Wooden Painted Saint!

Take the time to learn the St Michael the Archangel prayer and say it together as a family, everyday!

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,

by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..

3There are tonnes of Angel Crafts, if you search on google or pinterest…but I feel like cute little macaroni noodle angels, handprint paintings and doily crafts might be better for October 2, the Feast of the Guardian Angels…or nice alternate crafts for Halloween. They just seem a little too cute…and not all that majestic or powerful as the Archangels are!  What do you think?

Here is my Pinterest Board sample with a search for Archangels…and some somewhat sophisticated angel crafts!

St Michael, St Gabriel, St Raphael,

Comments

  1. I agree, there’s nothing “cutesy” about the archangels! Makes it hard to find projects, especially when trying to interest a 9 yr old boy. I’m thinking maybe a sword with the St. Michael prayer on it, involving foil…and sharpies? (sharpies are like the forbidden fruit of art supplies here so that will help intrigue him).
    Happy Michaelmas!
