A Catholic Parenting Game Plan: Me and My House {Review and a Discount Code!}

Recently I was contacted and requested to review this awesome program Me and My House created and hosted by Canadian Catholic Speaker Patrick Sullivan.

Me and My House is a practical game plan for parents: making little changes to make a huge impact on family life and deepening the relationships between parents and children.

Approximately 5 hours and 40 minutes of beautiful video segments offer practical tips for building family culture, assessing and meeting children’s needs, quality and quantity time with kids, house rules, discipline, habits that will make life easier and habits you’ll want to break. The series also includes an entire section on Faith; how to effectively live it in the home and to pass it along to children so that they will learn to rely on their Faith to guide them.

Patrick is an excellent, engaging speaker. I love how varied the video segments are with Patrick often speaking right in the setting of regular family life in or around their beautiful country home.  He speaks casually, yet eloquently, with his wife and eight children milling around and actively engaged in regular family activity including mealtime, movie time, family outings, outdoor play and exploration.

Even though my kids seem to range from the older end of his (and beyond to young adulthood), his recommendations resonate with me. I have found myself thinking about how to incorporate Patrick’s ideas into our own family culture, particularly with our 8 year old.

As Patrick describes in the Behind the Scenes trailer, there are a lot of parenting resources out there about the do’s and don’ts and various styles of parenthood. Curating all these resources, wading through sometimes-conflicting approaches, reacting to pressures in our society and responding to unsolicited advice can be confusing, guilt-laden and stressful.

Patrick explains what has worked for his family in his friendly, approachable and unintimidating style and offers an exceptional resource for parents. While many of our parishes have begun to offer wonderful resources for Faith Formation, Bible Studies and Sacrament Preparation for various groups within the congregation, this parenting series would be an extraordinary resource for young families in their vocation of parenthood.
