Egg Carton Saints Passion Play

Last year, I made a couple figures out of Egg Cartons…including a couple knights as our company mascot Arma Dei  (Armor of God)

I made Mother Mary…and a Pope Francis as well!

It occurred to me that the little knights could stand in as Roman soldiers…and the beginning plans of a new Egg Carton Character Passion Play begins to take hold…

Feast Day Fun: St. Patrick

Feast Day Crafts and Activities

Excerpts from A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families , various posts at Equipping Catholic Families and our Saint Scripts Craft Kits . St. Patrick  was taken to Ireland as a slave and his faith grew.  He escaped, went home to Britain, became a priest and then bishop.  He returned to Ireland, preaching and converting many people, using the shamrock to explain the Trinity. A few years ago, we transformed a couple TY dolls to be Saints. Here is St. Patrick!

How many of the AWESOME talks were you able to watch last weekend from the 2015 Catholic Conference 4 Moms? I managed to only see about 6 of the 27 awesome talks…but my FAVORITE was The Culprits that Steal a Mom’s Joy and How to Avoid them” by Stephanie Wood Weinart. Did you hear it?

Poker Chips (Converted to Catholic!)

Years ago, I made a Catholic craft out of some poker chips, a plastic picture frame and double-sided suction cups. We called it Plunk! with the Saints and posted a tutorial to make a Plunk! board.

Since then, our in-house artist (daughter) Kelly started drawing the Saints…and then the Mysteries of the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross. We’ve released a number of Cathletics Craft Kits with all kinds of templates to customize board game pieces, cake topper decorations…and we’ve finally got them ready for poker chips! Now, we keep coming up with new ways to use them! A little mod podge goes a long way! The Kelly Saints Stamps Craft Kit already includes a number of different templates of the Kelly Saints illustrations and bios, formatted to fit various game pieces, activities and crafts! The 1.5″ templates are a perfect fit for poker chips…but here are 30 ways to use the kit! read more...for Equipping Catholic Families!

Reverent or Routine: the Case for Sacred Subtitles and 9 Resolutions

I’ve been going to Mass at least once a week for over 44 years. Even with the New Translation of 2011, the text of the Mass is pretty familiar…or is it?

The truth is, I don’t always hear the beautiful words of the Mass. It’s true I’m a little hearing impaired, but I think it’s quite possible for most of us to glaze over and not listen intently to the words of the priest. Heck, it seems like sometimes the priest can even glaze over a little bit and speed-read the prayers of the Mass, taking for granted the wisdom and the diligence of our Church to carefully choose these beautiful and meaningful words invoking the Holy Spirit, rounding up the Faithful and transubstantiating the very Body and Blood of Jesus Christ out of mere bread and wine.

Our new Jesus Tree for Lent!

Although I have on occasion put the Jesse Tree Treasures’ Holy Week Ornaments on our own Handprint Tree Felt Banner, our family hasn’t done The Jesus Tree…until THIS LENT!

Each ornament refers to a particular passage from the New Testament about Jesus’ Life. As we read through each assigned passage, we review the major events of Jesus’ Life and His Teaching. We prepare for the events of Holy Week and the Triduum, Ascension and Pentecost, proudly decorating this tree throughout the seasons of Lent and Easter!
