Review: Sense of the Sacred Coloring Book and Prayer Companion and Giveaway!

Sense of the Sacred coloring book and companion is an exquisite collection of drawings  based on the statues and stained glass found in Catholic Churches, accompanied by Scriptural references to further articulate their significance. A Coloring Guide and Prayer Primer is also available with the same beautiful drawings in color, along with classic prayers from our Rich Tradition. Not only does the Sense of the Sacred Companion suggest a wonderful palette for coloring the pages of the coloring book, but the paperback, travel-friendly book offers a treasury of prayers to pass on to children, fostering reverence and awe for our Catholic Faith.Sneaky mom blogger…I really wanted to post this review today to get the word out about the Awesome Catholic Coloring Book Giveaway, so I managed to get the kids coloring before they went off to school this morning. I admit…I didn’t really expect alot of coloring to happen, given the usually rushed routine of the morning: I was just in it for the pictures!

My 6 year old (who incidentally was campaigning to stay home from school today!) got really excited about coloring and completed a whole page and ate her breakfast and had time to spare before they dashed off to the bus.  She even read some prayers from the Companion Coloring Guide/Prayer book.

Review: Aquinas and More Prayer Card Binder

I was pleased to receive this Prayer Card Binder from Aquinas and More, along with a starter set of 6 good quality plastic inserts after my post about Cataloguing the Family Collection of Holy Cards. Incidentally, the binder also includes an index of over 300 favorite holy cards available and references Aquinas and More Holy Cards for hundreds more.  I have a good collection of holy cards and I refer to them frequently for Saint-centric crafts I showcase on Equipping Catholic Families:

I appreciate the format of the 8″x10″ binder with the plastic sleeves holding 2×2 regular-sized trading or collector cards.  They easily fit the range of holy cards that I have.

Dream Team of Saints: October!

Awesome Saints in October!  I just painted a couple more Saints to add to the collection!   Rather than drive myself crazy trying to paint tiny detail with my mediocre brushes, I printed out some animals to hang out with St Francis and the Divine Mercy image for St Faustina. I lightly sprayed the color printouts with hair spray to ensure that the ink wouldn’t run.  I glued them in place on each painted figure, added the saint hands over top, along with some paint accents (because my printer isn’t the best!). I sealed it all in with clear, water-based varnish, adding that little shine and extra durability.   See more tips for making your own Dream Team of Wooden Painted Saints.  Here are a couple other posts about What To Do with Wooden Painted Saints  including Checkers, Snakes & Laddersand Trouble!

I’m linking up to the OCTOBER CeleLINKY with the SAINTS link-up to add my Saint-centered crafts and activities…and maybe pick up a couple new ideas, how about you?!

All Saints Day is coming soon!  I think I’ll be showcasing the November CeleLINKY with the SAINTS a little early to give people time to prepare for All Saints Parties and Crafts for November 1st!

what do YOU ask of your Guardian Angel?

Send Me Your Guardian Angel is an awesome book that will change your impression of your Guardian Angel….and perhaps escalate your demands and expectations for your angelic friend.

Consider…

Padre Pio’s Guardian Angel was a companion to him from the time he was a small boy.
Padre Pio’s Guardian Angel was a friend; one who teased and was teased by Padre Pio but also provided counsel when needed.
Padre Pio’s Guardian Angel was a consoler, sometimes travelling great distances to help troubled souls at their request or Padre Pio’s.
Padre Pio’s Guardian Angel was a messenger, delivering messages to his “spiritual children” who received guidance and direction from Padre Pio.
Padre Pio’s Guardian Angel was a translator of letters and confessions (and absolution), when language would otherwise be a barrier.
Padre Pio’s Guardian Angel was a reliable alarm clock, awakening Padre Pio’s helper from deep sleep when Padre Pio was in need of assistance.

St Therese’s Good Deed Beads

Happy St Thérèse Feast Day!

St Thérèse is such a beloved saint for her child-like Faith and for doing small things with great love. She was known to carry a string of beads to keep track of her continuous prayers, sacrifices and good deeds.  We have been making these little Good Deed Beads for years through Arma Dei: Equipping Catholic Families.  We currently have them available by special order only* Sometimes we need a little extra time to fill orders…we’ve even been known to enlist some of our kids to help us compile the kits!        *email for special order The neat thing about these strings of beads is that the beads slide and stay in place.  You will find an excellent tutorial at Little Ways to make the Good Deed Beads or Sacrifice Beads.

Our original kits offered the supplies to create one string of Good Deed Beads on a keychain, and eventually we found little plastic crosses to make additional colorful sets.
