My New Favorite Wedding Gift for Christian/Catholic Couples

We just recently built a shed in our backyard…from a Home Depot kit, but I’m kind of proud nonetheless with our newbie carpentry and roofing skills.

I guess the recent building experience has upped my confidence a bit, because I decided to try another wood-working project.

With 4 weddings this summer and fall, I finally remembered a favorite wedding gift we’ve given in the past: a Nativity set for the couple’s first Christmas! As I began searching for the right figures, I was unimpressed with the selection of Nativity stables on Amazon.ca (but you’ll find that I have found a couple more options available on Amazon.com…see below for affiliate links*), so I decided to make the Nativity Stables myself!

I made a simple design for the asymmetrical stable and purchased some pine 1″x3″ and thinner floor trim at Home Depot. See the other Homemade Nativities we’ve made over the years!

I ended up making 3 of them!

and here’s how they look with the Nativity Figurine sets I purchased as Wedding Gifts!

There are a lot of options out there! I like the detail of the painting on both sets.

The number of pieces vary: some sets have just the Holy Family or 8 or 9 pieces with the Kings, Shepherd Boy and Angel; some have 11 pieces including farm animals.

I like it when the Baby Jesus is removable, for when we set the Nativity out on the 3rd week of Advent, but hide Baby Jesus away because He hasn’t been born yet. We bring Baby Jesus out after Midnight Mass every year!

I think that this is an awesome wedding gift…and I wish I had thought of it for a few other couples who have recently been married.

Here are some affiliate links for Nativities I’ve been looking at. These sets vary a little bit from the sets I purchased through Amazon.ca

and if you don’t want to make the stable:

  1. Hello,
I teach CCD at St. Matthew Church in Spotsylvania, VA. I was on the internet and came across your saint postcards. I have been trying to locate a template or purchase them, but have not been successful. Could you possibly tell me how I might locate them.

Thank you and God bless you,
    Beth
