May Saint Mail: Blessed Imelda

Bl Imelda Saint mail

Earlier this week, on May 13, the Church celebrated Feasts of Our Lady of Fatima and Blessed Imelda Lambertini.

When I wrote about our busy month of April in our Saint Mail post for St Isidore, I could have suggested that May is just as busy…and June’s looking quite hectic as well!

Throughout these three months, we are blessed to be celebrating my mother-in-law’s 90th birthday, my husband’s 50th, Bridget’s birthday and First Holy Communion, my Dad’s 75th …and into the summer, we celebrate my parent’s 50th Anniversary, our own 20th Wedding  Anniversary, along with 25th and 30th Wedding Anniversaries and 60th birthday within Bill’s family. Whew!

But NO excuses! Saint Mail offers wonderful monthly packages, filled with special holy medal and saint card magnet collectibles, a friendly letter from the saint, along with well-described crafts and activities; a lot of the materials are provided …or you likely have them in your home!

The letter from Blessed Imelda talks about her love for Jesus and her intense prayer life at such a young age. She was eager to join the Dominican nuns, even though she was officially too young to declare her vows. With First Communion age set at 14 years old, Blessed Imelda was not allowed to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and for this reason she was devastated. She prayed desperately for two years, yearning to receive Communion until an incredible miracle happened prompting the priest to give Blessed Imelda Jesus in the Eucharist. Blessed Imelda happily passed away, a moment after she received her First Communion!

You need to read about this miracle…and the letter from Blessed Imelda in the Saint Mail package tells it so beautifully from Bl. Imelda’s perspective. Blessed Imelda assures other First Communicants that this won’t happen to them! (They won’t die moments after receiving their First Holy Communion!)

Blessed Imelda is appropriately named the Protectress of First Holy Communicants, encouraging reverence and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament…and love for Jesus!

The Saint Mail package for May appropriately includes special activities and celebrations surrounding those receiving First Communion this time of year! With my daughter Bridget receiving the Holy Eucharist for the first time on May 25, the timing of this package (even though we’re a little late getting to it!) is perfect in preparation for Bridget’s big day.

The little  wooden Prayer Cube offers 6 wonderful Communion prayers to prepare our hearts for receiving Jesus and the Holy Medal and bracelet remind us of the Precious Gift of the Eucharist.
