Catholic Family Fun: Book Review

Catholic Family Fun coverCatholic Family Fun by Sarah Reinhard is a playful book, jammed-packed with everyday activities and adventures for families, using easy to find materials that you probably have on hand….or requiring nothing but a burst of energy to run around outside.

The book is organized by the type of activity: silly things, story starters, at home projects, meals to share, outside fun, places to go and my favorite: Faith with fun, introducing saints through fun activities, ways to serve and approaches to prayer.

Some of Sarah’s descriptions sound like activities we already do, with an animated Dad and kids only too eager to act goofy along with him! I really enjoy the section on Faith with Fun which includes a guide for making a Mary Garden, getting inspired to use holy cards and tapping into the Catholic Calendar of Saints!

I’m even more impressed however, by the Faith Angle associated with all of the different activities: these echo my own sneaky aspirations of converting to Catholic the fun activities that kids want to do anyway….and have inspired many of our Cathletics Craft Kits and activities showcased at Equipping Catholic Families.

I really like Sarah’s down-to-earth, ‘a Mom-like-me’ writing style and the helpful upfront prep time, duration and cost indicators at the beginning of each craft. I appreciate her passion for strengthening family and fostering Faith.

While the book doesn’t include a lot of innovative or intricate craft ideas (that I like to do!) this Catholic Family Fun guide offers inviting activities that are fun and easy-to-tackle without requiring much more than the family members and their enthusiasm and energy to participate. I think that this is an excellent resource and would be a welcomed gift for families hoping to focus a little more on Faith and family, cultivating new family traditions.

One of the biggest compliments I have received for my book A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families….was expressed without a single word. An elementary school teacher dug my book out of her purse(!) and showed me her doggy-eared, well-worn copy. It had about a hundred sticky note tabs marking the activities she used in her classroom throughout the seasons of the Liturgical Calendar.

Catholic Family FunI think that Catholic Family Fun is one of those books too…packed with easy to tackle, faith-filled activities, begging for sticky note tabs and an easy quick reference location like the kitchen counter!

  1. Hi Monica, this sounds like a great book for faith formation! I do like the ones that include crafts but if she has activities or games, that would benefit young ones. God bless!
