All Souls Day

Yup, we dropped the ball on All Souls’ Day this year… Good thing the door is open until November 8th for full plenary indulgences just for going to the cemetery and praying for the dead.

Actually the whole month of November is devoted to All Souls…so we can keep our special crafts and traditions honoring our deceased loved ones…all month long!

Kendra did an awesome post about Praying for the Dead with Children at Catholic All Year. You’ll want to read this and

All Souls

For those with a home altar, this is a great opportunity to honor our loved ones who have passed away. Candles always make prayer time special…and these DIY Saints Votive Candles remind us to ask for our favorite saints’ intercession.

  • Similar DIY All Souls Votive Candles can be made honoring our loved ones, mod-podging photos or tributes to our loved ones on the outside of the recycled jars.
  • Capture memories of deceased loved ones by recalling happy events and memories. Record stories as they are told for soundtracks for family movies or slide shows.
  • Keep photos of deceased loved ones visible not only in the month of November but all through the year!
  • Remember the special prayer of St Gertrude. Make it a habit to say this prayer everyday as a family… for the souls in purgatory!

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
