October 28 is the Feast Day of St Simon and St Jude, both Apostles of Jesus.
This time around, I’m going to focus on St Jude. Once I gather more information about St Simon, I will post a separate Feast Day Fun edition and probably focus on activities about the Apostles.
St Jude is the patron saint of hopeless cases (and not to be confused with Judas the Traitor who was also an Apostle of Jesus). A legend recounts that St Jude took a cloth that had a perfect imprint of Jesus’ Face on it, to heal King Abgar. St Jude is usually pictured holding something that looks like a medallion with Jesus’ Face on it.
Feast Day Crafts and Activities
Excerpts from A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families , various posts at Equipping Catholic Families and our Saint Scripts Craft Kits (Series ONE and TWO). St Jude is the patron of hopeless cases.
We are encouraged to pray for his intercession for our biggest, most stressful concerns.
Families often have a number of special intentions to keep praying for, throughout family prayers. Sometimes people ask others to pray for them. Sometimes we are made aware of a tragedy or critical health scare concerning people we don’t even know.
Prayer Boards are helpful for both “desperate cases” for St Jude’s attention and the everyday concerns, offering an excellent expression and reminder of the current family prayer petitions.
Don’t forget All Souls! (November 2…and the dedication of the month of November) Pray for loved ones and all those who have died…for an accelerated path to Heaven!

The DoTella Prayer Jar FREE Printable is another neat prayer activity, similar to the God Box in A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families
It’s designed to get kids expressing their concerns and offering their special prayers in a fun new way.

Don’t forget this classic prayer, calling on the intercession of St Jude!
St. Jude, glorious Apostle,
faithful Servant and Friend of Jesus.
The name of the traitor
has caused you to be forgotten by many,
but the True Church invokes you universally
as the patron of things despaired of.
Pray for me, who am so miserable:
Pray for me, that finally I may receive the consolations
and the aid of heaven
in all my troubles, tribulations and sufferings,
particularly _________________
and that I may bless God
with the elect throughout Eternity. Amen.
