Crown of Thorns Bread for Good Friday

The Crown of Thorns dough wreath with toothpicks is a countdown craft for Lent. It’s also a Lenten activity in my book A Treasure Chest of Traditions for Catholic Families.

The toothpicks are inserted as a way to count sacrifice and count down to Easter.

Sometimes, we wait until Good Friday to make this simple Crown of Thorns for one small meal for the family (with dough from our bread machine). The kids poke the pretzels into the breaded dough and it looks like this.

When it came out of the oven, it looked like this.

We ate this with soup for a simple Good Friday lunch.

This is a special Good Friday prayer passed down to me by my grandmother.

She always said this prayer 33 times between 1-3pm on Good Friday.

O My Lord Jesus Christ, I most humbly beg of Thee,

by the merits of Thy Passion and Thy Divine Heart,

and by the intercession of Thy most cruel death, to

assist me in this my present necessity. . . . . . . . . . . .

HEART of Jesus, I put my trust in You.

I need your HELP, O Lord.

HEAL me, DIVINE Physician, of all my ills.

I put my HAND in your HAND as I walk with You

towards my HEAVENLY HOME where I will enjoy

eternal HAPPINESS.

Blessings for this Holy Triduum!
