40 Days, 40 Ways Review

40 Days 40 Ways Lent

OK, so I realize HOW late I am posting this review I wrote weeks ago! So sorry!

40 Days, 40 Ways: A New Look at Lent

by Marcellino D’Ambrosio

This really is a great book and has helped us take a new look at Lent this year.

“Fasting breaks undue attachments…humble service breaks the stranglehold of pride. The reverent worship of authentic Faith releases us from superstition, magic, and all arrogant pride. And the Word of God…slashes through the lies of the enemy.”

This book includes 40 practical ways to enter more deeply into Lent…one for each of the 40 Days. Most of the ideas…we have heard before, but the author recommends that we take on a couple of them for the full season of Lent, reading each idea more in depth throughout the 40 days and likely tweaking and adding a couple along the way.

I like that…even if we slip in our Lenten resolutions and our enthusiasm and resolve fades a little, we can always begin again…and this book offers lots of ideas for devotional practices.

The Table of Contents offers a quick summary of different Lenten practices, while the reflection for each day describes the idea more completely, elaborates on it and draws from the author’s experience. The reflections are thoughtful and well-written, inviting the reader to take on the challenge, and put the suggestion into practice for a more meaningful Lent.

The ideas are very “do-able”! We can do this! The devotional practices can be tackled one at a time…and they become even richer when practiced every day. Some of them may even become ‘habit’ for the rest of the year, including special prayers or scripture reading.

The book includes some recommended reading lists of additional Lenten Resources in the back along with a mini-retreat for Good Friday and the Triduum.

It’s not too late! You can purchase this book here: 40 Days, 40 Ways at Franciscan Media  (they graciously provided my copy!)…or even get it auto-delivered wirelessly to your kindle right away!
