Wish you could pray more?

What are the things that you do every day? Maybe your day starts with an alarm, the call from a child, or the bark of your dog needing to go outside. Do you stretch or exercise?

Do you walk into the kitchen and start the coffee maker?
Do you check your phone for messages…first thing?

Once you leave your house, do you get in the car to drive somewhere?
Do you pass the same houses or buildings?
Do you get stuck at the same red light?

What are the frustrations you experience regularly; every week or every day?
Do you receive phone calls from telemarketers just as you’re trying to get a meal on the table?
Are you stuck in traffic during your daily commute?
Is there a long line-up at the check-out or the drive-thru?

All of these regular cues, circumstances, or frustrations offer opportunities for Prompts to Pray.

By using visual cues, times of day, and daily tasks as reminders to pray, we can make our prayer a concrete habit, an ongoing conversation with God woven throughout our daily routine.

If we have instilled these reminders to pray by connecting common visual cues or actions with prayer,

we may find ourselves more deeply rooted in prayer, even as our routine or circumstances change over time.

If we truly want to integrate more prayer into our daily lives, we can consider any number of things we see, hear, or do as reminders to pray more consistently each day.

We can start by recognizing and assigning various visual cues as Prompts to Pray.

We can be prompted by things we see in our homes, at work, at school, or along our commute.

We can pray for patience as frustrations inevitably happen in our daily interactions.

We can associate different prayers with different tasks or times of day.

We can pray for strength from God to complete our daily tasks or as we experience difficulties.

We can decide not to indulge in a snack or social media; instead, pray to God for a special intention.

We can talk about our day with God, silently in our hearts, as we find ourselves waiting in the check-out line.*

Once we’ve established some time-tested reminders to pray, we can dig deeper, more vulnerably, for what can prompt consistent, maybe even unceasing prayer.

When we’re prompted to pray by our own discouragement, our struggles, our sins, we are prompted to pray even more often and more meaningfully.
Our new prayer plan is tailored to our own hearts and is articulated within our personal relationship with Jesus.
We can offer our own littleness as our unique and deeply personal Prompt to Pray, recognizing our dire need for God and reaching out to Him with childlike Faith.

We can surrender our littleness and invite Him to work through us, trusting that His Grace is sufficient for us.

We pray more vulnerably to Jesus and He draws us even closer to Himself.

We become more aware of His Presence with us and we listen for His Response to our prayer, in our hearts.

Prompt Me to Pray by Monica McConkey presents practical tips for prayer that can be easily customized to fit our busy lives, habits, daily tasks, and even our struggles. Recognizing our littleness as an inexhaustible source of Prompts to Pray helps us to reach out humbly in prayer when we need Him most and reminds us that God can use all things for good.

Monica shares the Prompts to Pray that she has discovered as she pursues consistent, heartfelt prayer and a personal relationship with Jesus.

The book features different approaches to heartfelt prayer including journaling and praying out loud, both spontaneous and classic prayers. It also includes journaling pages with specific writing prompts and prayers to customize your own personal plan for prayer. It includes a prayer vault of classic prayers and templates of full color pocket prayer prompts.
