I really enjoyed this book! It is written quite informally by the newly canonized saint’s mother. It contains her reflections about her son and recalls her memories of personal interactions him. Her love for her son clearly shines through, but despite being a proud Mom, it seems she tries to recount events and conversations somewhat objectively.
She also refers to the opinions and testimonies of Carlo’s character from others who knew him personally, including friends, neighbors, teachers and local priests.
From time to time, she quotes some of St Carlo’s own writings and her own spiritual reading.
It is amazing to find out more about this contemporary, Millenial Saint! The detailed recollections of his day-to-day life, his generous and self-sacrificing service to others and his mature understanding of the Catholic Faith – and how to live it, is so inspiring! It is certainly a consolation to read of this young man’s life and dedication to Jesus, Our Lady, and matters of the Catholic Faith in our largely secular world.
