Feast Day Fun: St Clare of Assisi

Welcome to Feast Day Fun: St Clare of Assisi!

St Clare was born in Assisi and consecrated herself to Jesus at an early age. She met St Francis and was inspired by him and started the order of nuns called the Poor Clares. She defended the convent from soldiers by holding up the monstrance and causing them to flee! When she became too ill to attend Mass, she miraculously saw Mass in her room. She is the patron saint of sore eyes and television!

Kids’ QuoteBooks #WorthRevisit

Kids say and do the funniest things. We think we’re going to remember who said what when, but as the kids get older, it’s amazing how their antics can blend together! Writing down the funny things they say and do at the time …is the best! The fridge calendar can be just that handy place to record all the little gems that you’ll be glad you captured. Every once in a while…I have transposed those little dated moments in cute little dollar store books: one for each child. I have recorded first words, dates the teeth came in or out and monumental “firsts”. I know which kid said “to da-vity and beyon’!” (quoting Buzz Lightyear), who challenged potty training “Mommy, your job is not my problem!” , who sang “ring around the rosary” and who was my only kid to fall asleep on the toilet at least once.

Anyone want to share any of their own favorites?

Feast Day Fun: St Peter and St Paul

June 29  is the Feast Day of St. Peter and St Paul.

Peter and Paul are two very important characters from the Early Church.

Peter was the most frequently mentioned member of the original 12 Apostles, who traveled with Jesus throughout His Public Ministry and could testify to the Resurrection. Jesus foretold that this apostle would be the rock upon which the Church would be built.  Despite Peter’s betrayal of Jesus after His Arrest, St Peter led the Apostles, became the first pope and was martyred for his faith.

Feast Day Fun: St Rita

May 22  is the Feast Day of St. Rita. She is the patron saint of impossible causes and hopeless or desperate cases because of the difficulties she experienced in her life.

Although St Rita wished to be a nun, her marriage was arranged to a difficult and violent man. After 20 years, her husband repented before he died.  Her two sons died shortly after that and St Rita focused on prayer, fasting, penance and good works. She entered the convent …and experienced the wounds of the crown of thorns.
